I am starting to wonder which is more worth while : carpooling or flex time? One saves gas and the other saves time.
As you know by reading my blog, I carpool. I carpool at least 3 to 4 days a week. I save about 4 gallons a day and my car pool buddies save the same. Its good for the environment and the wallet. However, work has gotten more busy with the economic crunch and i have needed to work later during the day. As a result, i have been driving home at 7 or 8 PM and sometimes even 10 PM, just to finish up the last email for the day or tidy up the desk for tomorrow.
The after hours drive home is effortless and enjoyable! i can cruise home in about 30 minutes versus 1 hour. It feels GREAT and i get more time to finish work! The smooth drive with no traffic. Never dropping below 55 MPH. Sure my mileage efficiency drops to 22 MPG versus 27MPG due to my speed but its enjoyable and comfortable and stressfree. Ofcourse, i may just drive at 55 MPH and get 30 MPG, by driving and coasting efficiently. And if i can carpool during after high traffic hours that would be really great!
Driving later in the night is an affordable luxury in times of hard work, growing gas prices, and bad economics. If only driving during to work was that smoothe.
